A Prawntastic Tokyo Tokyo Event

Last April 25, 2009 (Saturday) yours truly was invited to attend a special food event by Tokyo Tokyo and Yehey to experience their Watta Tempura dish and here's how the event went....

Watta Tempura at Tokyo Tokyo Bloggers Event

Thanks to the ever reliable Google Maps, accessing through directions and route to various locations is just a click away. Here is the route to Trinoma Mall where the Tokyo Tokyo Watta Tempura Event was held.

The day started with me leaving DasmariƱas, Cavite (as usual) at around 12:00 nn allocating two hours for the traffic (if there will be traffic). I arrived at the Trinoma around 1:45 pm and saw the Aspacio couple (Jeff and Jennifer) whom I joined at their table. There were also other bloggers whom I haven't known yet (or was too shy to socialize) who arrived at the venue before I did.

While waiting for other bloggers to arrive, these fellas took my attention and my mind started imagining the events Yehey and Tokyo Tokyo might have for us. Knowing that this is a Yehey Event there sure will be a lot of action in store for the bloggers. So roughly, after those guys dressed up as prawns and left Tokyo tokyo Trinoma, I came to a deduction that this is going to be a hunt.

Other bloggers started to arrive like Jori, Flow, Omar, Fjordan, Monique, Mica, Hannah, Iris, Montsch, Leira, Iris, Fritz, Arpee and many more. Laszlo of Yehey oficially welcomed us to Yehey and Tokyo Tokyo's food event but before the actual dining experience, we first have to hunt the escaped prawns (from Tokyo Tokyo's TV ads).

Video source: LePrawn James has an even "brighter future" in basketball

I like funny TV commercials and Tokyo tokyo has successfully pulled a good one off (or were they three?) Definitely three... here is the third one:

Video source: Jessica Shrimpson who have a good "future" with a Handsome Prawn.

We were grouped according to the colors of our name tags, and ours was pink. We told to go to the activity center to get the instruction.

After the group reached the crowded activity area, the instruction sheet was handed to us. We have to take one group picture together with (1)Prawnis Hilton, (2) LePrawn James, and (3) one picture of them doing their own activities.

prawn hunting at trinoma mall for tokyo tokyo event

We only have 30 minutes so the hunt was on! There was nothing on Trinoma Mall's third floor, meaning the escaped prawns could either be on the second or at the third. Good thing there are images in the instructions to give us a clue to where we can find them.

Luckily our group fulfilled all the necessary tasks and was the first team to arrive... Yehey! and was beat up with all the walking and running. When all the team arrived, Mr. Niel Carreon, Tokyo Tokyo's Marketing Head introduced us with Tokyo Tokyo's latest meal called "Watta Tempura".

Team pink won the prawn hunt and was rewarded bountifully by the sea gods with alluring music and convenient containers. Team pink comprises of Chris (me), Sire, Loraine, Hannah, Brian, Tina, Flowell, and Omar.

The beloved escaped prawns (or guys in a prawn suit) went back to Tokyo Tokyo. Some picture taking were held together with the big prawns and later dining on them hahaha. We were served with Watta Tempura meals and were filled to our hearts (or stomach's) content.

Pacquaio - Hatton Aftermath: K.O. By Round 2 and the Free Philippine TV Coverage

May 3, 2009 (Sunday) - Today the Philippines became an almost crime-free country thanks to the Manny Pacquiao and Ricky Hatton Bout. The Philippine Pride Manny Pacquiao has once again showed his power and supremacy over his fight with Ricky "The Hitman" Hatton.

Pacquiao - Hatton Aftermath

A Pacquiao vs Hatton Aftermath

My day started with me waking up at around 12:30 pm - 1:00 pm in the afternoon, and was way too late to watch the online livestream of Pacquiao - Hatton fight so I relied on the Philippine local coverage of Pacquaio-Hatton fight on the Kapuso channel GMA and was a bit disappointed about how the viewing experience went.

My major complain against GMA's coverage of the Pacquiao- Hatton Fight is the overkill of television advertisements or product endorsements they ran over the course of the coverage. Some might argue, if you don't want to see any television ads then go pay for the service, well that sure is true but can't we at least get some quality free Philippine coverage without a TV Ad overkill? Quality in a sense that they at least have a sense of balance in running those TV ads.

Manny Pacquiao and Ricky Hatton

Complains on GMA Kapuso 7 Philippine Television Coverage of the Manny Pacquiao and Ricky Hatton Fight

GMA 7 only showed the Philippine National Anthem "Lupang Hinirang" sang (in his own way ala-American Idol kind of a way) by Martin Nievera. Mr. Nievera's version of "Lupang Hinirang" is not that bad and is excusable if he was on a singing competition or a social gathering, but in international events like the Pacquaio-Hatton Bout where all eyes of almost every Filipinos are on it, I think it was better if he stick with the traditional way of how the Philippine National Anthem should be sang. Oh well, let the nationalistic and patriotic Filipinos deal with Mr. Nievera once he set foot on Philippines again.

Going back to GMA 7, I believe they should at least played the United States of America and United Kingdom's national anthem to recognized them and to show respect rather than infesting it with ads. As I've heard from father, who watched the Pacquiao-Hatton Fight on live on a public viewing in our municipality said that Tom Jones sang United Kingdom's National anthem which GMA 7 didn't show and replaced it with nuisance Television ads.

Going back to the actual fight... yes, they managed to show the fight amidst the infestation of advertisements. As it start and disregarding those almost 30 minute-filled TV ads, the two fighters exchanged blows against each other. What one can easily notice was that Hatton tends to charge or rush towards Pacquiao which Pacquaio use for his advantage and the result was Ricky Hatton falling down two times by round one. I didn't like Ricky "Hatton's Clinching Style" of cheating, I mean fighting. Why clinch when you can attack head on your opponent? Does that mean that he admits to himself that he can't fight him head on? Well, I will never would know.

Though, I know that Pacquiao vs Hatton Fight will end in Round 2 (thanks to my father for spoiling the details) I was still curious on how will he beat Hatton. So here comes Round 2, Hatton managed to deliver quite some blow to Pacquiao as well but not K.O.-ing unlike what Pacquiao delivers to his opponent. The climax was the Knock Out Punch will delivered to Ricky Hatton by Manny Pacquaio which concluded the much talked about fight.

Not to sound arrogant, but was this the "surprise" Ricky Hatton was so confidently talking about? Well, it sure did surprise us though, because we though he could at least endure the match until the 7th or 8th round but he didn't. We were indeed surprised. I guess GMA Kapuso Channel was also surprised at the immediate outcome of the fight, so in order to earn more from their advertisers they repeated the fight from Round one after that concluding fight in round 2. I was proud and was ecstatic on how Manny Pacquiao once again showed the world his power and supremacy in the boxing ring (a feeling which almost all the Filipinos felt that time, I believe).

I will leave you with this video of How Manny Pacquiao Knocked Out Ricky Hatton

Komikon Summer Fiesta 2009 - Comics Enthusiast Unite This May and Concern

April 24, 2009 (Friday) - I've been one of the avid followers of Komikon (Annual Philippine Comics Convention) since 2007 and has always hoped that they make it more regular rather than a 1 day event per year. Thank goodness that this year they've decided to make Summer Komikon which is going to be held at UP Bahay ng Alumni, UP Diliman on May 16, 2009 (Saturday).

Here is the official poster for the KSF or Komikon Summer Fiesta 2009

To know more about anything Komikon, the contests, what to watch out and the success the event had in the past years, you can visit them at their official sites here:

Some concerns...

I speak as an individual and enthusiast of comics and Filipino comics. Komikon is a reputable evnt and organization, and is not associated on what i am about to say. I exercise my freedom of speech.

Komikon has become an institution and name in helping the Philippine Comics Industry and Filipino talents survive through the years. Though we know the media will never die, it sure is slowly fading. What replaces it are pointless and plotless Philippines television soaps and what's also worst is the falsehood television companies calling a person or himself as the King of Pinoy Komiks whom he is not, yes i am talking about you Carlo J. Caparas.

The debate if whether a comics is Filipino or not is not over. If it is drawn, created and intended for the Filipinos then it is a Filipino Comics. Though the style and medium may vary the essence is still there. The Philippine Comics community is a small community which doesn't need "self-proclaimed Kings" to disown and separate the industry. What the Philippine Comics Industry are people who'll support and help the industry back in it's former glory.

But nuff said, let's put those who disown this industry like how they disown it, and go comics mad this May 16, 2009 for Komikon Summer Fiesta 2009 and on November for the Official Komikon 2009 Event

An Ideal and Creative Advocacy Through Visuals With Vision

March 20, 2009 (Friday) A noble campaign and contest called Visuals With Vision was launched at Pablo X, Cubao in partnership with YOCard, the premier freecard provider in the Philippines.

The picture I used here are taken from my second partner in crime, the Sony Ericsson W760i. My brother brought the Canon Powershot A470 (my usual partner in covering blog events) so I crossed fingers and hope that the Sony Ericsson produced the same good quality pictures like my digi cam, luckily it did.

I arrived early (as usual) at the venue, so early that they were just about to finish the set up for the event. So I decided not to approach the event first (not to show that I am that "excited" with the event hehehe). Around 8 in the evening people started flocking the small display room and that's were I signed up and still was the first one to log in.

I liked how YoCard creatively turn ordinary advertisements into aesthetically pleasing to the eyes and intellect postcards. Some of the photos I captured can be seen in my Visuals with Vision Launching Coverage Facebook Photo album

The people from WeWillDoodle turned the seeming blank postcard holders into holder of works of art which is also related to YoCard's Advocacies.

My Paypal Limited Status Ordeal and Being Reinstated Again

April 21, 2009 (Tuesday), Paypal, the leading e-commerce business which allows payments and money transfers to be made through the Internet has been and still is the most safest and "undisputed" name when it comes to doing online transactions, but recently I have gone under a unsatisfactory ordeal in using Paypal. Here is my experience:

Sign up for PayPal and start accepting credit card payments instantly.

I have been a consumer of Paypal for almost a year now. I recalled enrolling for a debit card accredited by Paypal through Union Bank and finally getting my EON Card, which can withdraw my Paypal funds. Since then everything went good until the last part of the year where Paypal emailed me saying that my paypal account is on limited status which limits me from receiving payments, withdrawing or transferring funds, and deleting my account.

I received that e-mail around November. Paypal stated that on November 13, 2008 someone tried to illegally access or hack through my account (I don't if that peson was just me forgetting my password or the "real deal"). So they show an instruction on how to bring back and reinstate my Paypal Account. During those times, I was still able to receive payments from my online writing gig, so my funds accumulated until it reach a desirable "withraw-able" amount but I can't transfer it because my account was limited. So by the last week of January I started filling up the required forms to lift my Paypal's limited status access.

One requirement states that I should send them a proof of address. I completely trust that they will not disclosed this critical information out of the public so I scanned my Smart Internet Utility Bill and send it to Paypal in JPEG form. I thought it would took quite sometime because I know i am not the only customer with this conflict. After a month there is still no updates and again they sent me a warning that I should complete all the requirements, and I thought to myself "Complete... what?" So what I did is scan February's Internet Utility Bill and a valid Philippine Postal I.D. just to "really" confirm my identity. I've already changed my password and security questions, so the proof of address is the only requirement left.

What I also notice is that beside the upload file there is also a printable facsimile (fax) coversheet with a bar code before the upload utility page is. So if they don't want a normal scanned document then it is time to print the documents and send it via fax.

Come late March, yours truly got broke and was not able to immediately fax the requirements. Paypal sent me a last reminder to submit my requirements or they will be force to close my account which fueled my rage. I have emailed their customer support page and all I receive are the same old automated messages. If only a "real" Paypal representative answered me, I might have finished and completed all the requirements on Day 1, but No! they just keep on showing these complicated case ID like PP123456789 which really not tell anything on what happened and how will they be resolved.

April 19, 2009 - sunday. I've finally free myself of debts (from Boss) and finally fax my utility bill to Paypal's Office in the United States of America. The facsimile services took over a minute and a half and the people running the fax services has already charged me with 240.00 PhP ($5.00). I just thought, this will finally resolve it, so with a more easy feeling I went home thinking that the pricey fax service will do it.

Later that night, I opened my e-mail and receive a message from Paypal finally telling me that my account was reinstated which made me ecstatically happy making me plurk that I am back in business. I logged in to Paypal and to my dismay saw that my account was still on limited status and they only removed one of the case ID's (I had two before), I once again read my gmail and saw a recent email telling me that they still can't reinstate my limited Paypal Account which infuriated me. After that I emailed them this:

Restored? where?
I logged in my paypal information and it is still limited? what is the meaning of this? Are you messing with us, your customers?

I am really furious about these steps. I've scanned and uploaded my internet utility bill to Paypal and a valid Philippine Postal I.D. in the past, and then you tell me you can't still resolved this? I am in complete dismay and disappointed Paypal. I've already fax you the latest Internet Utility Bill and still you won't reinstate my account? what other procedures will I have to take or money have to waste. I've changed my password already, secuurity question and uploaded and fax the information amany times. What more do you ask of me? Would I have to call you just to address this issue? Then don't expect a satisfied and friendly call!

Disappointed and hoping for a quick fix, from a customer with a fading loyalty,
Chris A.

I was really disappointed with how everything went. Last night (April 20, 2009 - Tuesday) they've finally reinstated without much more fuss my Paypal account. I finally sighed a relief and decided to withdraw most of my funds in Paypal. I am still giving them another chance and hope next time they'll provide a better customer service for their users.

So it is official again, Chris A. is indeed back in business.

Sensationalism and Network Wars on Philippine Television Networks

Ted Failon, is that enough for this post to garner good traffic or SEO? Then if it is then let me spam you with Ted Failon, Ted Failon's wife, Ted Failon suspect, Failon suicide.

Sorry, just wanted that out of my system, just really am irritated with all the buzz about the incident that happened to the Failon household. For those who still don't know here is a link to the news:

Ted Failon arrested

My point is not to judge nor convict Mr. Failon here, because investigations are still undergoing and come on people, let's give the man "the benefit of doubt". He is still innocent until proven otherwise. What irritates me is the sensationalism and obvious network wars playing behind all of this.

What am I saying here people?

The dispute, oh I mean "friendly competition" of the two major local television companies in the Philippines (GMA "Kapuso" and ABS CBN "Kapamilya") will never end as long as they keep on bashing each other while their down (or their people are). Let's take the issue Ted Failon for example, as I've heard on the news (because I am typing here in my room), it is almost like every minute (okay 10 minutes), the news keeps on revolving around the Failon's case, police speculation about the case, update to the health of the victim (Failon's wife) which is really repetitive. It makes me ask isn't there any other news that you can deliver the Filipino mass? How about those hostages in Sulu? Our fellow Filipinos who might be stuck in the crisis in Thailand? The thousands of unemployed? World news which might concerns us like the alleged North Korea's development of weapons of mass destruction, global warming, fire prevention, and the update on Wilma Galvante and Anabelle Rama dispute (okay, the last one is not relevant), but the bottom line is there are a lot of news to cover so why focus on this high profile case and making people speculate even more and doubt the potential suspects while the investigation is still going on? Why don't they just deliver something that will make Filipinos feel proud, good, and relaxed. Not with these network bashing, character assassinations, sensationalism and redundant delivery of the same old news. What has the local news in the Philippines fall so shallow into?

This is just my opinion, my observation on the sensationalism and network wars on Philippine television networks.
